We have been addressing the scented products issue for quite some time and you have listened. THANK YOU! We now have more and more bridge clubs that are putting up notices and making announcements to help eliminate the suffocating effects of perfume, etc....THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you coming from your cosy homes, sometimes leaving your dinner table early to attend the night time bridge games. You are a treat and make my job fun and vibrant. We have many who are interested in learning bridge for the first time and I am putting people together as they show up, so spread the word...Jeanni is teaching beginners Mon 7-9 PM at Pompano and Tu and Thurs at JCC 7-9 PM. I also have a class on 2/1 at Pompano Wed 7:15 - 9:15 PM 3 weeks starting 7/22 $10 each or 3 for $25. It's an interesting time and I wouldnt miss a moment of it. So no vacation for Paul and I, we will prepare for the cruise 11/1/09 PLEASE COME WITH US. Not too late to sign up.

Summer is Coming

The streets, the stores, the restaurants and the bridge clubs are less crowded. We are a smaller group and cannot afford to lose anymore players to illness. Please be aware of the threats to our health and try to keep everything clean. This includes clean air. NO SMELLY STUFF! No scented products that are not perfume but are perfumed! Some of you are coming around, others still can't let their scents go. You can do it! We are adding a Sunday 1 PM game w/bagels at JCC starts May 17th. Please come. Opening day is 2 for 1. May 4th starts Silver Points at Pompano Bridge Club for those with less than 300 registered masterpoints. Monday thru Friday 12:30 and MWF 7 PM. Come for one or all sessions but COME. The end of the year party at Paulpano is May 20th. It's been a great and fun season.

Not real sure what that means, however, since I started the "triple point" madness I feel responsible when a player who needs silver points tells me he has over 300 points due to the "triple point" games!! Now what??? Should the limited games really give "triple points?" Is it a disservice? I mean if they want triple points, they can play in the big game (Fort Lauderdale). It wouldn't be so bad if we could have NLM silver games at a reasonable fee (like the 299'ers) from ACBL. But without approval, ACBL directors have to come, supplies, acbl hands, per diems, room and board and session fees!! Geesh.... So I would like to run a NonLife Master/Senior Silver Tourney for the same fee as the 299'er but then I would need a bigger playing area. There it is: Cause and effect. Blog vs email - Members Party

Hi everyone, I send so many emails and get quite a few bounced back. Then I worry I wont reach the one who really needs this. So when the worry catches up I blog. God takes good care of me. He sends me people to pair up, I know the website helps, but to find people partners is one of the services I enjoy providing my customers. I spoke with another director on Friday night who said he like teaching more than directing. My response "I love directing!" I hope it shows. This members party at Pompano Friday Night 2/20 is open to EVERYONE. The BOD decided to have it on Friday night since most of the new members are from the night time group. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!!! Thank YOU! So please come and celebrate. We will acknowledge the many National Ace of Clubs Winners who play at our club. We will have door prizes, computer hands, appetizers, wine, beer, soda, cake, a Pincess House Crystal display and lots of Good Will. Only $10 each. There are many missing new members and I wonder why they have not come for so long, please come.

Hard to Handle

As you know I have been running silver tourneys for people with under 300 masterpoints. In January, the tourney is at the Jewish Comm. Center. Since they are not open Friday Night or Saturday Day we start on Sunday with a team game. Geesh...no wonder the swiss teams are at the end of tourneys. By that time people can meet and form their own teams. It is truly a test for me to put together people I dont even know let alone know about how they will get along as a team. The stress is great and the numbers seem to be low because of a reluctance to play with people they dont know. Anyway, day time games are really the bread and butter games here in South Florida where people dont see well and cant drive at night. Thanks for your support. Come see me Thursday 1/22 afternoon and evening for the finale of our lovely tourney.

Holidays

A wonderful time of the year, especially in South Florida as the snowbirds fly South bring big games and enjoy our warm weather. We are trully blessed to live in a vacation paradise. We should "be happy, dont worry" kinda people. Remember to smile and offer good luck to the meanest of opponents and remember people play for lots of different reasons. During these financially troubling times people and personal contact can make a difference between a day to remember and a day you wish you could forget. Let's not be the person who might ruin someone's day. And also be aware it's not what you say - it's how you make them feel. So be happy from your heart. Come and join me and the games. Another Hat

I dont know how else to describe another position, prospective, opportunity that has been added to my life. These Charity Games actually are having an impact on people and their lives. Before McFatter I donated the extra charity money to the Posnack JCC and from Pompano Club to Juvenile Diabetes now a charitable organization has come to me for help. We are adopting Poverello.org as our charity of choice and helping to feed the local HIV/AIDS population in Wilton Manors. Please visit the site and feel good about helping. In the Ditches

Sometimes playing bridge is like going to war. Of course with zero tolerance for rudeness you cannot let the opponents (enemy) know just how much you want a good result. The time to congratulate yourselves on a successful board or round is when you LEAVE THE TABLE. The ego is very fragile and when there is a novice at the table consideration and concern should be shown. Another zero tolerance issue is body scents. If I am standing 3 feet from you and can smell you, you need to shower or use mouth wash or lighten up on the perfume. Let's all be more aware of our effect on others and be considerate in these times of hardship. For those of you who lost someone on 9/11, my deepest sympathy.

Good Day everyone, The survey is over and the best result at the duplicate table was 1S doubled down one for +100. The hand: QJ109x, xx, AJx, Jxx. Partner opened 1H, RHO bid 1S, you passed and LHO passed. Part of negative double is "when responder passes, opener doubles when short in the overcalled suit". So thanks to my partner June Nathanson for reopening with doubled, I passed for penalty and we got the top score. Are you interested in learning from Jeanni? Workshops for advancing duplicate players are coming up 9/15 at JCC and 9/18 in Boca. Sept. subject is "Balancing". The response has been okay at St. Marks in Boca but not so good for JCC on Monday afternoon.

Newbies and our future

Newbies and our future
We have lots of new players at JCC and lots of veteran players at the Pompano Club. At both places, we have new players. These "Newbies" are precious and need your welcoming warmth. Remember the days when we were learning and our tablemates and teachers cheered when we did something correct, so we would finally be encouraged. Words like "nice bid" or "well done" are common among the newbies. When they make the transition (and I throw them in so the big games will not have sit-outs) they think we are unfriendly. Why? Because we have been ignored ourselves in the past. We are still thinking about the last hand, or simply because as soon as you sit down, you are the opponents and we are trying to beat you. When a newbie gets a good score from bidding that has confused the table, there are grumpy, nasty veterans who talk about BAD bidding and FIXES and God Forbid - Coffeehousing. I can still remember the day back in the early 70's at the Executive Bridge Club when I, as a beginner, was accused of coffeehousing. I was totally offended and at the same time I had no idea what he was talking about. I might have quit right then but my current sport was softball and bowling and I am a total competitor and LOVE bridge. Come on folks, congratulate the beginners. Make them feel wonderful. Be Friendly as I KNOW you can be.

Sure hope you are having a good week... Now that the storm is gone, it's time to come out and play. I am hoping for a good crowd the rest of the week since $1 pp goes to the Brad Lenzi Charity Fund at McFatter Tech College. Tonight was kinda awful. The hands were different (hand shuffled) and hard to bid. There were terrible breaks and really long suits. Please don't complain to me about computer hands! geesh... Anyway, too many partnerships were teaching and chastising. Zero tolerance does not allow anyone to criticize or do anything to make anyone else uncomfortable in the whole room! When I was a tourney player, my partner was mean and insulting, but truly folks, it is no longer allowed and there is no tolerance for this behavior anymore. My fond regards to you all. Just took some time to schedule and plan the special Swiss Team events available during October's Club Appreciation month. The Jewish Holidays have dictated the dates. Please take a look and make plans to attend. These games pay triple masterpoints with 5% GOLD! Before then, we have at Pompano, the 9/1 Monday Labor Day "8 is Enough!"
